Supriya Ganesh isn’t appearing in season 3 of The Pitt — but will the show address the shakeup on screen?
Creator R. Scott Gemmill spoke exclusively with Us at Warner Bros. Television Group’s 78th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominees Celebration on Sunday, September 13, saying, “I can’t remember. I think we did put an update early on.”
Gemmill admitted he wasn’t sure about where the subtle reference might appear.
“We’re so far into it now. We’re about to shoot episode 7,” he noted. “We’re just prepping 8, so we’re halfway through the season already.”

Ganesh, 28, made her mark on HBO Max’s The Pitt when she was introduced in the role of Samira Mohan. Ganesh appeared on seasons 1 and 2 before news broke in March that she would be written out of the show. The decision received backlash from fans, some of whom were still upset about Tracy Ifeachor‘s exit after season 1.
Ganesh told the Los Angeles Times in a profile published in June that her departure was a “creative decision” made by executive producers Gemmill, Noah Wyle and John Wells.

“They work with such intention on the show and make all the choices that they make for that reason,” she noted. “So I think it’s better to ask them for answers.”
Ganesh chose to focus on the positive. “I’m going to treasure all the memories I had working with these two [Sepideh Moafi and Isa Briones] and everyone else,” she added. “It’s been so great just getting all the love from the fans. I feel sad for them, too, that they won’t get to see this character.”
Gemmill, for his part, wouldn’t give away whether more cast exits were coming.
“No, not necessarily,” he told Us. “I think it depends on what kind of stories we’re telling and what makes the most sense for the show.”
The producer also weighed in on the reaction to The Pitt losing fan-favorite characters, saying, “I think that’s a good sign. It means we’ve created characters that they feel passionate about, and between the writers and the directors and the actors themselves, I mean, that’s what our goal is, ultimately.”
Another reason viewers weren’t thrilled about Mohan’s exit was the unanswered question about a potential romance with Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy). While speaking to Us, Gemmill didn’t rule out them getting together in the future.
“You never know,” he noted. “Never say never.”
