“What is a hero? I think a hero is: an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere & endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Warner Bros and DC have revealed the must watch official trailer for the outstanding documentary film called Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which is now being presented by the current DC Studios head James Gunn. This initially premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year to rave reviews – it’s a remarkably powerful doc, one of the best of the year so far. Talented doc filmmakers Ian Bonhôte & Peter Ettedgui “soar to new heights” with their emotional & deeply moving account of the story of the late Christopher Reeve, who became an iconic movie star as the iconic “Man of Steel” superhero in the blockbuster Superman films of the late 1970s & 1980s – until a near-fatal accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. This epic doc details Reeve’s pivot to determined activism for spinal cord injury cures and disability rights and care, an empowering journey that his three children – Matthew, Alexandra and Will – would eventually continue after his untimely death. This is one of the most moving films of the year, a triumphant & inspiring look at the life of this incredible man, and also his family.

Intro via Sundance: “Never-before-seen home movies and extraordinary personal archives reveal how Christopher Reeve went from unknown actor to iconic movie star as the ultimate screen superhero. He learned the true meaning of heroism as an activist afte a tragic accident that left him quadriplegic and dependent on a ventilator to breathe. Moving backward and forward in time, filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui expertly weave together a dual narrative exploring the life-changing impact of two pivotal moments in Christopher Reeve’s career: being cast in 1978’s Superman and becoming paralyzed in 1995.” Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a doc co-directed by filmmakers Ian Bonhôte (Alleycats) & Peter Ettedgui, together directors of the docs McQueen and Rising Phoenix, and the series “Kingdom of Dreams” as well. Produced by Lizzie Gillett, Robert Ford, and Ian Bonhôte. This first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year – one of the best from the fest.
