Xena: Warrior Princess star Renee O’Connor weighs in on whether the iconic show could return, exclusive interview

For years, fans have been curious about whether we’ll ever see a remake or reboot of the iconic and hit TV fantasy series, Xena: Warrior Princess.

The show aired from 1995 to 2001 and still has a cult following to this day. And even lately, some of the most-popular shows are getting remade or getting specials.

American actress Renee O’Connor, who rose to fame on the show as (Lucy Lawless’ character) Xena’s sidekick Gabrielle, has weighed in and says she’s wanted “a reboot for years”.

“I’ve said yes to a reboot for years… at this point in time, I don’t know what it would look like for me to play a role in the bigger picture of Xena,” she tells 9honey Celebrity in an exclusive chat, before she travels to Australia for Oz Comic-Con in Sydney and Brisbane this month.

But she says she sends her ”best wishes” if a reboot goes ahead.

“So I think all I can do is send my best wishes towards bringing forth a story that is compelling, that satisfies the need we all have for strong females in fantasy… [who work] for the greater good,” she adds.

During the interview with 9honey Celebrity, where she spoke about her thoughts on whether Xena and Gabrielle were a couple, she also spoke about working with Kiwi star Lawless, 57.

“In my ideal world I would see her more frequently,” O’Connor says, with Lawless living in New Zealand, where the show was made.

“I am a fan of her as a person, of her work ethic, her sense of fairness and practicality and honesty, all wrapped as one person, when she works with each person on a set… she is very strong at the same time, she is hilarious.”
