House Of The Dragon Director Hypes Up Season 2 Despite Reduced Episode Count

House of the Dragon director Claire Kilner opened up about the intriguing changes lined up for the show’s second season during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. A significant shift, as highlighted by Kilner, is the decision to roll out a shorter season but with episodes brimming with content.

The decision to make House of the Dragon season 2 consist of only eight episodes has not come at the expense of the show’s richness. While speaking to THR, Kilner emphasized the density of the episodes, mentioning that there’s “so much happening in every episode.” Such a packed content structure, as it appears, has presented its own set of challenges, with the director admitting that the House of the Dragon team sometimes struggles to fit all the storylines within a one-hour window.

The intent behind such decisions becomes clearer with insights from House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal. Kilner highlighted Condal’s vision for the season, sharing that he was determined to give season 2 “a good opening and a good ending,” before adding that the episodes are “jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.”

What you need to know about House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows House Targaryen – the noble house of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen from Thrones – as a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons breaks out between claimants to the Iron Throne.

Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal served as co-showrunners on House of the Dragon season one. They also executive produced the season alongside George R. R. Martin. The series features a star-studded cast that includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
