Christina Aguilera recently donned a show-stopping outfit that closely resembled her iconic “Dirrty” era in the early 2000s.
The star was spotted in a sultry all-black look, complete with a lace bra, leather mini-shorts, a sheer fabric with crosses throughout, and thigh-high leather boots.
The singer completed the edgy outfit with a smokey eye and voluminous curly hair, while attending MISTR’s 2nd Annual National PrEP Day in California on October 10.
The bold look felt nostalgic of her Y2K rock and roll style, featuring leather, lace, bikini tops, thigh-high boots, and wild hair.
Christina emphasized the importance of being multifaceted with her style, sound and career-overall, and how she’s passionate about pushing the envelope across the board.
She revealed to Harper’s Bazaar: “It’s always been really important to make expression first and foremost in my creative process, and taking risks. It was really important to me early on not to feel boxed in or to play it too safe. So straight out the gate, once I got the creative freedom to make the [Stripped] album, I wanted to express myself wholeheartedly and authentically.”
The singer recalled: “I wanted to have fun—especially for a song and music video like ‘Dirrty.’ The David LaChapelle video alone was so fun and had so many characters, and portrayals of freedom….It was a little naughty, a little nice, and we had fun with that.”
Christina Aguilera’s take on Y2K fashion making a comeback
The artist loves that the nostalgic decade’s fashion trends are making a comeback today. She revealed to InStyle: “It’s always fun to see things come back and live in a new era.”
Christina shared: “I was big with statement baby tees — I loved them. Oh, and I loved a bandana. I still wear them sometimes — I’m really into these latex ones.”
The star also gushed about her admiration for Y2K fashion with Byrdie, adding: “I’m shocked how many have come back already. Low-rise jeans, crop tops. I was a big statement tee person. I still am—I love a good little message. I’m a message girly, forever and ever. It’s never going away.”
Christina revealed that she credits her openness towards experimentation, which helped her discover her iconic style over the years.
She expressed: “When you’re younger you don’t know—but that’s kind of the beauty of being young, not knowing. I wouldn’t even advise myself not to do anything, because you have to learn by what you do and by experimenting. Get things out of your system. You’ll either learn from it or make iconic moments in the process.”
