Elon Musk’s recent comment about Sydney Sweeney is going viral, and it’s so incredibly unnecessary that it almost ruined my holiday season.
Lately, Sydney has found her way into headlines left and right, from the American Eagle jeans ad controversy to reactions to her projects, such as Christy, and the highly anticipated Season 3 of Euphoria, to which it unfortunately always centers around commentary on her appearance.
On Dec. 15, Sydney attended the Los Angeles premiere of her film The Housemaid.
The 28-year-old actor wore a custom white gown by Israeli bridal designer Galia Lahav. The gown notably featured feathered details along the hem, a cinched bodice, and a low, draped halter neckline that garnered the most attention online.
On Dec. 16, when Variety posted a video of Sydney on the red carpet, Elon made a rather shocking statement.
“Can’t be easy,” he commented alongside a seemingly AI-generated split image of a woman with cleavage beside the text, “What it looks like.” Below, another image showed an X-ray of an injured spine, accompanied by the text, “What it feels like.”
The X CEO’s shameless comment took people aback. One person said, “bro they gotta kick you off ur own platform this is insane.”
Someone else said, “She’s 30 years younger than you. Weird.”
This person recalled a similarly disturbing September 2024 X post from Elon to Taylor Swift, which said, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” The X user commented, “Between this response to Taylor Swift and that response to Sydney Sweeney, I don’t know which Elon Musk tweet is more pathetic. Back in 2018, learning about this guy was like learning about real world Iron Man.”
And this person pointed out Elon’s “letting his intrusive thoughts win.”
In case you thought this might be a glitch in The Matrix, Elon shared another X post about Sydney’s body on the same day. In response to an X user’s post about the video game Diablo IV‘s weapons and armor, Elon said, “Seems like this will be a contest for most double-stacked equipment,” alongside a meme’d image of Sydney from the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The image included the text: “Science: don’t stare directly at the eclipse,” with the words “The eclipse” placed over Sydney’s cleavage.
Ugh. I think this is a sign I need to spend less time on the internet, or at least stay off X. What are your thoughts?
