First Teaser for Unsettling Thriller ‘Gentle Monster’ with Léa Seydoux

“What other secrets do you have?” Netflix has unveiled their teaser trailer for the film Gentle Monster, an unsettling thriller arriving to watch starting in November. From Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer, this disconcerting child abuse drama is about a pianist whose life unravels when the police come to arrest her husband. It first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews and being released by Netflix briefly in US theaters before it hits streaming. When a police raid shatters her life, a concert pianist must protect her son and confront how little she knows her husband after he is accused of an unspeakable crime. She uncovers a life-shattering truth that forces her to confront the complexities of love, trust, and deception. Léa Seydoux stars as Lucy Weiss, along with Laurence Rupp, Jella Haase, and Catherine Deneuve. Featuring music by Camille. The film switches between German, French, and English conversations all the time, which doesn’t really work well, but so be it. I’m not really a fan of this film – it fails at exploring any of the more prickly themes it’s trying to address and leaves you feeling drained after watching it. Have a look.

From writer/director Marie Kreutzer, this tells the story of concert pianist Lucy (Léa Seydoux), who has just relocated her family to a country house hoping to ease her husband Philip’s (Laurence Rupp) severe burnout. Before they have a chance to set up their new home, an early morning police visit tears their life apart… Trapped between the man she loves and the fear of what he may have done, Lucy must face the situation alone as her world unravels. Gentle Monster asks what we do when someone we love turns out to be someone we never really knew. Gentle Monster is written and directed by Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer, also director of the films The Fatherless, Gruber is Leaving, We Used to Be Cool, The Ground Beneath My Feet, Vier, and Corsage previously. Produced by Alexander Gehr and Johanna Scherz. This first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Netflix releases Kreutzer’s Gentle Monster in select US theaters starting October 30th, 2026 and for streaming on Netflix on November 18th this fall.
