Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen will be the focus of a new TV spinoff series. There were rumblings of such a project earlier this year, and THR reports that it’s now moving forward with American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda set to write, executive produce, and showrun the project.
Skyler Gisondo will star as Jimmy Olsen, with the series set to include the other reporters at the Daily Planet as they investigate cases involving super-powered villains. Gorilla Grodd, the super-intelligent ape who frequently clashes with The Flash, will be the main villain of the first season.
James Gunn and Peter Safran will executive produce the series, with Gialyin Vaisman overseeing for DC.
Gisondo made his DCU debut in Superman. As in the comics, Jimmy Olsen is a young photographer at the Daily Planet, but the movie also transformed him into an unlikely ladies’ man. Other members of the Daily Planet include Beck Bennett as reporter Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as columnist Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as reporter Ron Troupe, Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White, and, of course, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and David Corenswet as Clark Kent.
Jimmy Olsen will also likely return for Man of Tomorrow. The Superman follow-up will start production in April 2026, and Warner Bros. have already scheduled the sequel for a July 9, 2027 release. While speaking on the Howard Stern Show in September, Gunn dropped a few story details. “It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” he said. “It’s more complicated than that but. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.” Many fans are speculating that this “much bigger threat” will be Brainiac, a possibility that Gunn may have even hinted at with the reveal of the script’s title page.
