Ken Carson isn’t wasting any time capitalizing on the momentum behind xperiment. Just days after releasing his fifth studio album, the Atlanta rapper has announced the 17-date xperimenting tour, a U.S. headlining run that begins Aug. 26 at Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion and wraps Sept. 23 at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
Promoted by Live Nation, the tour will make stops in Brooklyn, Washington, D.C., Miami and Atlanta, among other cities, with support coming from xaviersobased, prettifun and DJ Moon. Artist presales begin tomorrow (July 8) ahead of a general onsale on July 10.
The announcement follows a strong opening for xperiment, which generated nearly 16 million global streams on its first day. Production comes from frequent collaborators including F1LTHY, AM, Lucian and Clif Shayne, while 2hollis contributes to “shadeson,” the song Carson used to close his headlining set at Rolling Loud California earlier this year.
xperiment also features a heavyweight lineup of guests, including Destroy Lonely, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug and Playboi Carti. Carson and Carti recently performed their collaboration “wedidit” together during Carti’s closing set at Chicago’s Summer Smash, while the song’s Frankie Watts-directed video — shot in their hometown of Atlanta — has already racked up millions of views. The album’s distinctive artwork, depicting a USB drive plugged into Carson’s neck, has become the centerpiece of a larger sci-fi narrative explored through a series of surreal short films directed by Joy Divizn.
Carson is already looking beyond the album. He has announced a new mixtape, cartunez, due July 11, following the release of a digital deluxe edition of xperiment featuring the bonus track “Too Many Poles.”
Fresh off festival appearances at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival and Germany’s Splash! Festival, where he brought out Destroy Lonely for “shopping,” Carson heads next to Openair Frauenfeld in Switzerland, Clout Festival in Poland and Austria’s Frequency Festival.
