Things are about to get weird and wonderfully bloody in Texas. Billy Magnussen and Lulu Wilson have officially signed on to star in Joe Lynch’s upcoming horror comedy Buzzkill, which starts shooting in early 2026.
The project is being launched for sales at the American Film Market by Anonymous Content and The Veterans, who have teamed up to bring this boozy monster flick to life.
Billed as a mashup between A Quiet Place and Another Round, Buzzkill unfolds in a small Texas town plagued by a creature that can only be seen by people who are drunk.
Magnussen stars as Sheriff Red, a recently widowed recovering alcoholic trying to rebuild his life. When locals start showing up murdered and mutilated, Red discovers the horrifying twist: the monster feeds on the blood alcohol content of its victims.
As the town’s annual brewery festival approaches and everyone prepares to get wasted, Red is forced to confront his demons and literally pick up the bottle again, this time to save his town. Wilson plays Lydia, Red’s vengeful little sister, who has her own score to settle with the creature.
Lynch, who’s built a cult following with Everly, Mayhem, Point Blank, and Creepshow, is directing from a script by Colin McLaughlin.
“Colin has crafted a story that’s equal parts hilarious, scary and action-packed — an entertaining romp from start to finish,” said Producer Dane Eckerle.
“Joe Lynch’s track record and ability to create high-octane genre chaos makes him the perfect filmmaker for the job. Add our stars, Billy and Lulu, plus our partners at Anonymous Content and The Veterans — and we couldn’t think of a better team to be brewing this movie alongside.”
Magnussen’s past work includes Into the Woods, Aladdin, No Time to Die, and Netflix’s Black Mirror. He also recently appeared in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch and Road House with Jake Gyllenhaal, and will soon lead AMC’s 2026 series The Audacity.
Wilson has made her mark in Ouija: Origin of Evil, Annabelle: Creation, and The Haunting of Hill House. She also starred in The Fall of the House of Usher and the Becky trilogy. She’ll next appear in a Hulu comedy feature alongside Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone.
Buzzkill promises a mix of dark humor, sharp horror, and wild chaos.
