MrBeast Speaks Out After Ex-Employee Files Lawsuit Claiming Harassment, Toxic Work Environment At Beast Industries

The drama swirling around YouTube megastar MrBeast just got a whole lot messier, and this time it’s not about jaw-dropping stunts or viral giveaways.

Instead, the internet’s golden boy is facing some seriously unflattering headlines after a former employee filed a lawsuit this week accusing his company, Beast Industries, and its ex-chief exec of fostering a toxic and allegedly hostile work environment.

Lorrayne Mavromatis, who previously worked as Head of Instagram for the company, filed her complaint on Wednesday in North Carolina federal court, and its allegations are anything but minor. In it, she claims she was subjected to sexual harassment by former CEO James Warren, treated differently from male coworkers, and ultimately pushed out after speaking up.

According to her filing, things escalated after she raised concerns internally, leading to what she describes as retaliation in the form of a demotion and eventual termination.

MrBeast himself, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, didn’t exactly hide from the spotlight amid the controversy. Speaking at the Time100 Summit the very same day, he addressed the growing scrutiny around his company’s culture. When asked directly about it, he offered a candid reflection on how things have evolved as his once-scrappy YouTube operation ballooned into a massive enterprise:

“Yeah, I mean that’s always something that people talk about. I started this business when I was 11, so obviously, I didn’t know what that word meant back then. It’s obviously evolved over the lifetime of the company, but, you know, a couple of years ago, especially now we’re at 750 employees, I brought in more experienced people because, you know, shocker, as a person who’s studied YouTube videos and studied content, isn’t, you know, maybe the best to set a culture of a company at this scale.”

He doubled down on that point, emphasizing the role of seasoned executives in shaping the company’s direction:

“It’s been amazing to have people who have actually worked and ran and built floors teams like point out things where I’m like, ‘Oh, that makes sense. That’s why I hired you.’”

But while Donaldson is pointing to growing pains, Mavromatis is painting a much darker picture behind the scenes. In her complaint, she alleges that Warren would hold meetings with her in a “dimly lit” room at his home and make inappropriate comments about her appearance.

Whoa…

Even more eyebrow-raising is a claim about something Warren allegedly said regarding Donaldson himself:

“Jimmy gets really awkward around beautiful women. Let’s just say that when you’re around and he goes to the restroom, he’s not actually using the restroom.”

Uh, WHAT?!

A spokesperson for Beast Industries was quick to clap back, dismissing that claim outright as:

“…an allegation fabricated for the sole purpose of sparking headlines.”

The company didn’t stop there. They also accused Mavromatis of exploiting Donaldson’s publicly known Crohn’s disease in order to strengthen her case, calling the lawsuit a calculated attempt to land a massive payout. And in case there was any doubt about how strongly they feel, the company went all in with this statement:

“This clout-chasing complaint is built on deliberate misrepresentations and categorically false statements, and we have the receipts to prove it. There is extensive evidence — including Slack and WhatsApp messages, company documents, and witness testimony — that unequivocally refutes her claims. We will not submit to opportunistic lawyers looking to manufacture a payday from us.”

Still, Mavromatis’ accusations go beyond just one executive. She claims the company culture itself was riddled with problematic behavior, from being excluded from meetings to being asked to fetch beer for Donaldson, to allegedly being told to “shut up” during discussions. She also criticized the company’s internal policies, or lack thereof, claiming there was no traditional employee handbook, but rather a bizarrely casual guide with questionable language.

This isn’t even the first time Beast Industries has faced scrutiny. Just last year, multiple employees were let go following an internal investigation into workplace misconduct. And before that, there were those awful grooming allegations…

As this legal battle unfolds, one thing is clear: MrBeast’s carefully curated image as the internet’s nicest guy is being put to the ultimate test. Whether this turns out to be a case of growing pains or something more serious remains to be seen, but either way, the court of public opinion is already in session.
