The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set to hit theaters this November. The first character posters for The Hunger Games prequel have officially been revealed.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set to have a star-studded cast, bringing the likes of Rachel Zegler, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage into the world of Panem. Each of the seven key players in The Hunger Games prequel had their character posters revealed by Fandango, which can be seen below:
The two groupings of posters seem to draw a line between two groups: those who wish to preserve the sanctity of Panem like Peter Dinklage’s Casca Highbottom and Viola Davis’ Dr. Volumnia Gaul, and those who will bring it into the future, like Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird and Tom Blyth’s Coriolanus Snow. Given fans of The Hunger Games already know Snow will be the president in Panemu’s future, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes seeems set to show his rise to power in a new era for Panem.
The talent behind the new Hunger Games movie
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is being directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed the final three films in the original series. Michael Arndt, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay for Little Miss Sunshine, has penned the script alongside Assassin’s Creed scribe Michael Lesslie. In addition to Tom Blyth, the film also features Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Burn Gorman, Fionnula Flanagan and Josh Andres Rivera, among many others.
The Hunger Games centered on Katniss Everdeen’s rising popularity on a televised battle royale death match and her subsequent leadership role in the uprising against a fascist government. Lionsgate released four films based on the novels, starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence as Everdeen opposite Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, and Elizabeth Banks. The film series collectively grossed nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office.
