Tiny Lands 2 takes a beautiful, hand-crafted 3D diorama and turns it into a spot the difference game that feels captivating.
Some games just have a specific style to them that feel absolutely perfect for the type of game that they are. Tiny Lands 2 is a spot the difference style game, but instead of having a flat image that you look at, it’s got a handcrafted, stunning 3D diorama in each level, allowing you to pan around and rotate the world as you look for the differences.
I got to play a demo at BCN Game Fest and experience these small scenes ahead of its release on November 6th. The little scenes often have lots of tiny people in them, sometimes with tiny items and sometimes with normal sized items, making the people feel very small. When moving around the level, you are actually moving both of the pictures at the same time, which works fantastically when looking for the differences between the two images.
Sometimes the differences in Tiny Lands 2 are some items are missing, sometimes items in the wrong spot slightly, or sometimes the colors being off – there are lots of ways the two images can be different. You can also find puzzle pieces around the levels too which solve little puzzles. These puzzles give you stickers for the photo mode.
When it comes to the normal mode, you will get stars for finding the various differences around the level. Then, you can use those stars to unlock other levels within the world. You do not need to finish each puzzle to move to the next one and can bounce around, which I always find is very useful for me. The game does have a hint system, but the hint sort of pulses a big area before ending, even if you have not found the difference. This hint system isn’t super useful, but it is fun.
You can also switch to a photo mode and put some stickers and boarders on your image, moving your camera around and removing the UI, to create a picture of the diorama. I think this is such a fun idea, especially because the levels themselves are fantastic to look at. Overall, Tiny Lands 2 is shaping up to be a fun, cozy game that has you finding differences at your own pace, taking pictures, putting up stickers, and moving around adorable scenes.
