Weezer is leaning into the corporate bit.
Ahead of the Aug. 21 release of the band’s self-titled 20th studio album, Rivers Cuomo and company have unveiled “C.E.O.,” a tongue-in-cheek meditation on the strange business of staying Weezer, paired with a celebrity-packed video featuring Tony Hawk, Michael Peña, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Giovanni Ribisi, Rob Riggle, Rob Huebel, Dax Flame, Curry Barker and Chit (Jay Renshaw).

The band accompanied the clip with an equally deadpan corporate memo: “Many thanks to our distinguished associates for their appearances in the accompanying visual presentation,” it reads. “Each has been awarded the Gold Star of Excellence for exemplary performance. Pat yourselves on the back for helping to raise the gold standard.”
Musically, “C.E.O.” finds Cuomo wrestling with a dilemma that’s followed Weezer for decades. “Cranking out another ’90s jam / Wish I could do something new / But nobody wants to hear that / They just want the classics,” he sings before conceding, “You can’t blame ’em really / There’s something special about your early shit.”
The chorus casts Cuomo as both artist and executive, repeating, “Here comes the C.E.O. / I gotta keep this rocket in the sky,” while a spoken-word interlude nostalgically recalls his earliest days making music: “I was just a kid from Connecticut alone in my room playing with a Tascam 688. I miss those days.” By the song’s close, the frontman admits he has to “stop thinking like a mad professor” because “it’s getting me nowhere” — a wry acknowledgment of the balancing act between experimentation and giving fans exactly what they came for.
The video arrives as Weezer expands its 2027 Gathering world tour with newly announced dates across Japan, the U.K. and Europe. Taking Back Sunday will join the band overseas following a previously announced 32-date North American arena run this fall featuring support from the Shins and Silversun Pickups.
As previously reported, Weezer marks the band’s first collaboration with producers Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume (formerly Kenny Beats). It also reunites Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson as songwriting partners for the first time since the group’s 1994 debut.
