Guests at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) have a new reason to love the airport’s mission to reduce single-use plastic water bottles. The exclusive LOVE at LAX water bottles by MOBOT, with art design from well-known Los Angeles artist Ruben Rojas, are available at select retail stores beginning Friday, Dec. 1.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports in partnership with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has launched the Sustain with Love water bottle campaign in support of the airport’s move to encourage more sustainable travel.  From Dec. 1-31, guests who spend $75 at a specialty retail store in LAX Terminals 1,2,3,6, Tom Bradley International Terminal and West Gates are eligible to receive the bottle as a complimentary gift while supplies last, terms and conditions apply.

URW was inspired by LAX’s mission to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles and wanted to celebrate the eco-friendly movement by rewarding guests with a one-of-a-kind water bottle. Guests are encouraged to fill up their water bottle at any of the hydration stations located throughout the airport. To find a water refill station, guests can view this interactive map, which shows the location of the hydration stations in each terminal.

The MOBOT water bottle, which doubles as a foam roller, is adorned with artist Ruben Rojas’signature bold LOVE graffiti, signifying LAX’s dedication to a sustainable future. The bottles are made from 100% recycled stainless steel, non-toxic high-density EVA foam, FDA approved, BPA free and come with stainless steel straws.

“Eliminating single-use plastic water bottles is essential to improving our environment and enhancing sustainability across our airports,” said Bea Hsu, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles World Airports. “We thank our partners at URW for supporting our goals for a greener future in a way that is meaningful and useful for our guests, and we look forward to seeing passengers use their new MOBOT water bottle at our hydration stations.”

“As a leader in sustainability, we are proud to join LAWA on this important initiative to reduce our environmental footprint,” said Maral Matossian, URW General Manager, LAX. “We wanted to do something to commemorate this monumental step in protecting our future. Our love for LAX and the environment really shines through with these unique water bottles that will remind our guests to help reduce plastic waste.”

Rojas, known for beautifying the city through his “Love” messaging, uses art to inspire others to see through the ‘lens of love’. His murals can be spotted all over the world including more than 20 locations in the Los Angeles area.

“We start by taking responsibility for our actions. Simple daily choices have the power to make a big difference locally and globally. Choose Love, and help shape a world where our decisions reach far beyond ourselves. Today, start by joining us in eliminating single-use plastic and show your love for the planet and take home a limited-edition piece of art,” said Rojas.

“The collaboration with MOBOT is a perfect fit for LAX and its guests,” said Lani Cooper, Founder and CEO of MOBOT. “As a former flight attendant, I was frustrated at the lack of eco-travel options to support well-being and the environment on-the-go. MOBOT was born out of my own experiences. The nice thing about the water bottle is that in addition to being eco-friendly, it doubles as a foam roller, providing travelers the chance for a quick stretch during travels.”

LAX prohibited the sale of single-use water bottles in June after a two-year phase-out period that allowed airport businesses to use up inventories of plastic water bottles and modify purchasing contracts before switching to compliant products. Under the policy, which is part of L.A.’s New Green Deal, LAWA and businesses with lease or concession agreements at LAX and Van Nuys Airport (VNY) are required to substitute single-use plastic water bottles with containers made from sustainable alternatives, including recyclable aluminum or glass.

Waste reduction and water management are just two important elements of LAWA’s Sustainability Action Plan, which includes plans for LAX and VNY to achieve net zero in the following areas by the year 2045: no potable water consumed for non-potable uses, and zero carbon emissions from LAWA operations. LAWA is also committed to using 100% renewable electricity by 2045. Learn more about these sustainability initiatives at www.lawa.org/lawa-sustainability.
