Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Billie Eilish and Kacey Musgraves were among the surprise guests yesterday (April 18) during the second weekend of the Coachella festival, adding further star power to a day already loaded with Justin Bieber, Addison Rae, SOMBR and PinkPantheress.
Clad only in a pink bra top in jeans amid the nearly 90-degree California weather, Rodrigo offered the live debut of her brand new single, “drop dead,” as part of Rae’s main stage set and also sang a portion of the latter’s hit “Headphones On.” Rodrigo hadn’t performed live since last November at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony; her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, will arrive June 12 from Geffen.
SZA and Eilish both took the stage during Justin Bieber’s headlining set, although SZA actually sang live while Eilish was there solely as a spectator. It appeared as if Eilish was actually nudged out from the wings unexpectedly for Bieber to sing “One Less Lonely Girl” to her, parking herself on a stool and laughing throughout the moment.
SZA joined the fun for an acoustic performance of “Snooze,” on which she originally teamed with Bieber following the 2022 release of her album SOS. The pair previously performed the song together at SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s Sofi Stadium show in Los Angeles in May 2025. Throughout his 29-song set, Bieber also brought out Sexyy Red for “SWEET SPOT,” Big Sean for “As Long As You Love Me” and “No Pressure” and Dijon for “DEVOTION.”
Musgraves’ Saturday set had been announced in advance, but there will still plenty of surprises in the form of the live debuts of “Middle of Nowhere” (the title track of her May 1 new album), “Uncertain, Tx.,” and the tongue-in-cheek ode to recovering alcoholics, “Back on the Wagon.”
Not to be outdone, PinkPantheress was augmented during her Saturday set by Janelle Monae, Zara Larsson and KATSEYE’s Manon. Coachella concludes today with KAROL G, Young Thug, Laufey, FKA twigs and Clipse, among many others.
